Product Description

Product description Original issue NEW SEALED 2 CD SET! 1997 Original U.S.A. issue. Different/Unique Cover. Please see pictures. In original factory wrap/sealed. No cuts or marks of any nature to case. A DEFINITE COLLECTIBLE. Amazon.com By the end of the 1970s, John Williams was already a legend among filmmakers and film-scoring buffs. But the success of Star Wars elevated him to something he probably could have scarcely imagined--bona fide pop-culture icon. Williams's masterful score to the first Star Wars sequel (and the chapter many sci-fi fans cite as the series' most dark, emotionally complex, and satisfying) fleshes out his original character themes with some new ones while painting compelling musical portraits of alien worlds as disparate as the ice planet Hoth and the swampy Dagobah. Notable are the menacing, Prokofiev-inspired "Imperial Theme (Darth Vader's March)"; the noble "Yoda and the Force"; and Hoth's "Battle" cues, which are some of the most dramatic action cues ever. This expanded edition also fleshes out the already familiar themes with new tracks that restore the score to its status as a grand galactic symphony. A richly illustrated booklet is included as well, helping listeners place each piece of music in its proper cinematic context. Of his four attempts at coloring George Lucas's rich stellar saga, this remains Williams's most consistent and compelling. --Jerry McCulley

Even though all of the other Star Wars soundtracks have their moments of glory, and some are as classic or epic as they come, I keep returning to The Empire Strikes Back as the one with the most such "moments." I would even dare to say that this is the greatest of all motion picture soundtracks (particularly because the special edition includes all of the music from the movie, something that seems frustratingly hard to come by these days). The strongest portions of the soundrack are during Battle of Hoth (disc 1, track 5), Asteroid Field (disc 1 track 6) and the entirety of disc 2.Even though all of the music used in the movie is on this soundtrack, it isn't necessarily in the same order or edit as in the film. The music recorded for the two probe droid scenes (disc 1, tracks 2b and 4a) is swapped in the movie, and most of the music recorded for the Snowspeeders take flight (disc 1, track 3c) is replaced in the film by music from the Hyperspace track (disc 2, track 11b). Also, in the movie, certain clips of music from other places in the soundtrack are used for scenes that apparently weren't originally recorded for. This can possibly create some confusion when trying to follow the movie action while listening, but I believe this doesn't detract very much from the overall effect of the soundtrack.A wonderful album, great music. Go John Williams, and may the Force be with you!
