I was there (at Center Stage) when this was recorded and it was MAJIC. I was sixteen years old and I was into Jeff Beck and Steve Vai and Bill Bruford (I know Bill's a drummer, but I was into his sound heavily at the time). My dad had two tickets to go see a concert. He asked me if I wanted to go and I said "Sure, why not? It's a free concert"." Well, let me tell you something about that "free concert". It forever changed the way I listened to music. That night had such an impact on me in so many ways. I know it sounds cheesy, but it did. I didn't know that there were people on this planet who were that good. From the first few bars of Road Expense I was HOOKED. Awesome, in your face playing from every band member. The playing was insanely technical and spot on, but never self indulgent or pointless. I didn't hear any mistakes. Listen to this CD, and you won't either. That's not done in the studio folks, these guys are THAT good. Steve (Morse - guitar player) has said since then that he came in early on the intro of the hereafter, but they left it on the CD with the urging from Phil Walden (Capricorn Records). There's a bit at the intro to "The Hereafter" where someone yells out "Oh, Steve!". I remember that from when I was there. This show was a treat. There isn't a bad seat at the Center Stage in Atlanta, where this was recorded. They recorded two nights, and I was there on the second night.I had found my new favorite band. Not only did I like the way these guys played, I liked WHAT they played. I'd never heard "jazz rock" (if you will) with a southern edge. I just LOVE that sound. If you've never heard the Dregs and are considering buying this disc, just buy it. If you are a fan of good players playing good music, this CD's for you. This is also a good one to start with as and introduction to the Dregs. The Dregs really shine live, and this disc is a testament to that. A STRONG 5 stars.
