This album is amazing. The musicians weave a sound that is reminiscent of the 70's, but still sounds as current and relevant as music today. I have seen some classify this as Country, some as Alt Rock, Adult Contemporary...I don't care how you label it, it's just plain good. There are a wide variety of styles, rockers to slow burners. The opening track is amazing, using metaphors to the fullest extent of the definition. Is it a song about a lover, alcohol, drugs? It's perfection. The second "Further Away" is a stand out from the lyrics, to the building rhythms, to the catchy chorus, to the sweet guitar solo. "Further Away" is a masterpiece in songwriting. Followed by "Shameless", a power-chord rocker that gives the bird to celebrities like Miley and Lindsay. "They All Want You" paints a picture with a brush held by the soul of someone far older than the singer. Stuff like that is what makes this album so appealing. Yea, and throw in the fact that she sounds just like freakin' Stevie Nicks at various points across the album. I haven't been able to say I liked the first four tracks of any album produced in the last few years. This band is an odd mix, they put out "cover" EPs of bands like Danzig, Lady GaGa and Judas Priest. They play live sets with the bass player playing the drums with his feet while playing the bass. I've seen some acts that do that as a gimmick, but Lissie does it because they are bad ass enough to pull it off...beautifully. I mean, what female-fronted acts out there have the stones to pull off a 20 year old Judas Priest song, and make it sound like they wrote it themselves 6 months ago. This band bleeds talent on this album. Amazingly crafted, superb songwriting, and contagious hooks. If you are a fan of "music", buy this album.
