The Darkness - One Way Ticket to Hell & Back
I will preface my review by saying I am a true Darkness fan, and saw them live in 2004 here in the US, and really enjoy their music. I am hard rock person with a fondness for so-called "hair" metal as well. My favorite Darkness songs are not on either of their 2 albums, though--Bareback, Makin' Out and Physical Sex.This album is like the first in that the more I listen to it, the more I like it. It isn't the same as the first tho', and here are some reasons why:1. I didn't really get the comparisons to Queen with the first album, other than the falsetto and cat suits. This album does bring Queen to mind due to the backing vocals and some guitar arrangements. I hear some of it and think back to Night at the Opera. But, that isn't a bad thing, to remind one of Queen, is it? No, it isn't.2. There are more pianos and use of other backing instruments in some songs, which again, isn't a bad thing. It's just different.3. There are more slow songs on this album. Again, just a difference, and personally I like more fast, rockin' songs, but these are growing on me (ha!). And the first 3 songs just truly rock!I think the Darkness are a band you either hate or love--they are not for everyone, so if you don't care for 'em, move along and leave it to us Darklings!
