Fantastc photos love this book. Can't get enough of Cilla.this book is incredibly put well put together with some shots I had not seen before.Cilla Black. My wife Anne can't stand her. She hates anyone from Liverpool. Anyway I love her music and world famous novels, that's why I bought this book. I read an article the other day in Annes copy of Woman's Own, and apparently Cilla Black introduced The Beatles to marijuana. Or was it Bob Dylan? Either way she introduced someone to marijuana. Long live Cilla! On a separate note, myself and my father have finished building our time machine. More details to follow. This is a look back at the career of one of Britains finest stars and looking through these photographs reminds us what a special lady Cilla is.I have only had the book a few days but have had great pleasure seeing Cilla change through the years. There are photos I haven't seen before which are lovely to see and a lot that have been used many times. Its a bit disappointing that there are many fantastic photos that haven't been used and I suppose it has been difficult to make this selection but all in all it's a great memoir of one of the nicest stars Britain has produced.Singer,Presenter,Actress etc etc Cilla's done it and done it very well.Congratulations Cilla on 50 glorious years.I have been a fan from the beginning and couldn't imagine my life without you there.Thank you for the records, the concerts, the TV shows and most of all thank you for being YOU.As a big fan of cilla blacks music i have been awaiting her 50th anniversary with much excitement, and have anticipated this book since it was announced, i pre orderd it, and it arrived at the weekend. To my amazement the price has been dropped by roughly six pounds after i had paid the full amount, i consider this one in the eye for any avid fans, as im presuming most would have pre orderd the book and paid full price, however as annoying as this is, the original price was just under twenty pounds before postage, which considering the book to be a large hardback edition, and excelent quality i still believe i got excellent value. The cover shot is stunning, and as soon as you hold the weight of the book, and have that first flick through the pages, one initially feels that this is going to be a pleasure to glance through, and to give a summary it is a pleasure. If you are fairly new to the history of cilla black and her career then you will be in safe hands with this product, if you are a huge fan like myself you will find so much to enjoy, but you will also feel the usual sense of a slight emptiness, a sense that there is something missing or could have been more, just that little extra effort for the true fans who hang on cillas every career move.I feel that the title 'back to black' was an unfortunate move, it has a strength, it rhymes, it rolls of the tounge, but it is a title that is already linked to Amy Whinehouse, and i feel that there is a slight cheekiness to this. We have in segments a biography of cilla, and considering that this is a photographic memoir, and her biography was only released a few years back, i would say this was a bonus if you are unfamiliar with cilla, again for fans who buy everything, we have read it all before, but ultimately the presence of these paragraphs are very welcome. The vast majority of these images are new and rare to myself, and it was and will be a great pleasure to look at them. They fill the page and are printed on gorgeous quality paper. I did not like that the images were not in chronological order, i would have prefered the photos to progress me through time, instead i found myself going back and forth from pre nose job to post nose job then back again, from bobbed hair to long hair, to bowl cut to bob again, this was annoying and i will not pretend otherwise. I also found the book had a lack of pinpointing landmarks in her career. When her studio albums were acknowledged, and indeed several were missed, they were just nodded at, i would have liked the couple of pages after them to contain lots of alternate shots for the cover, and some photos of the recording sessions in perhaps collages, also i would have appreciated a few of cillas memories around this point or her thoughts of the albums, maybe even a little note from george martin. (Again im very aware that this is a photographic memoir, but i am primaraly a fan of her music career, and would just like that bit of extra info, something i dont yet know already)If you are a new fan buy it, if you are a seasoned fan, well you probably already have it, the photography and quality is top knotch for whatever price you pay or have paid, but i cant help feeling, as i have with every release that there could have just been something a little more. I have also just seen that the 50th anniversary collection has been changed due to a takeover, gone are the album of mosly new remixes, and in its place, another 'best of' collection, i have lost count of how many i have, but only want it for the dvd of 'cilla at the savoy', if you are a new fan of cilla's i would recomend the album'compleatly cilla', it has her compleate george martin produced catalougue, in the exact order they were recorded, and some very thoughtful linear notes. If anyone wishes to respond to my review, to agree or disagree, i welcome that. however i am fully aware that i have not made use of grammer correctly, and have not spell checked it, so any comments regarding that will be ignored. thanks for reading. This is a book fans have waited for - to celebrate a brilliant career which has now reached a landmark anniversary - 50 years in the entertainment business. This book gives a glimpse of Cilla through the years with a stunning selection of photographs starting with family photos from her childhood up to the present day. For the hard core fans there are some very rare pictures to look at, some shots we may be a little more familiar with - all are fascinating in their own way. Some brilliant professional promotional shots to the more informal poses and stage shots - all reflecting on a truly remarkable career. The fashions and hair styles (and various shades of red)take us from the early days when Cilla topped the pop charts, through to the days when she topped the TV ratings and pictures from more recent times see Cilla enjoying her semi retirement. The text will be familiar to the die hard fans, there is the really nice touch where Cilla has added comments to some of the pictures. The discography at the end of the book gives an impressive list of Cilla's recording achievements. The book is very well put together, the quality of the pictures is superb.I have just a couple of minor quibbles - it would have been nice to have included a resume of Cilla's live work and TV work (presented like the discography)as these areas were significant aspects of her career and other than a couple of pictures of eldest Robert when he was a baby - there are no pictures of Cilla's sons - but these points aren't enough to give the book less than five stars. This book serves as a great tribute to one of best loved entertainers, Our Cilla - well worth buyingAs another avid fan of Cilla Black I have been waiting for the release of this book eagerly and have not been disappointed. It is full of photographs throughout her 50 years in show business many of which I have not seen before and is a great addition to my book shelf and Cilla memorabilia.I am rather disgruntled, like the previous reviewer, that the day after I received the book it has been discounted by a substantial amount and had I not pre-ordered it I would have benefited from the now reduced price. That said, it is still an excellent book and one that any fan of Cilla Black or the 60s will be pleased to have.Oh my, this is such a must buy book! It is so professionally presented showing huge rare stunning photographs that tells the story of the iconic Cilla Black from a successful singer to television personality and presenter. I'm finding this review hard to do, due to being so overwhelmed to it's classiness. It is a gem of an above average size book, (coffee table book), comprising of 192 pages, and jammed packed full of A4 to double page spread photographs. A fantastic tribute to a lady that is currently celebrating 50 years in show business!! . As an avid fan, It appears that I cannot be anything other than impressed with 'Back to Black: Cilla. The Authorised Photographic Memoir' - and perhaps more importantly I am confident it will be a firm favourite for other people too.
