A very nice sketch pad,,,,I wouldn’t hand this to a 3 year old, that will scribble away,,,a doodle pad will work for that. This pad is very nice and the paper has a good weight. I did get it for a grandchild and ended up drawing some pictures and I really liked the feel of it. I sketch quite often and I have some nice ones. Bristol, strathmore, canon and I have discovered castle’s brand is not bad either, and would be a good transition for your budding artist. Soucolors texture is smooth and therefore perfect for children and crayons or pencil sketching. The best part? Very affordable. The hardback makes it something you can take anywhere and have a good surface to work on. I want to say the pounds press for inch is 65, which isn’t bad, at this price point. I think this sketch pad will make any young artist feel special and understand the importance of savoring each page. The ring binding is really sturdy and makes turning the pages over, a breeze. No more losing much of your drawing space to the turnover crease. 100% usage of each page. I’ll say it again….I’ve been sketching for decades and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and very proud to give this to my very talented grandson, to do his story boards on.
