The HN55XX series file bars fit "New Style" HON cabinets ONLY. The slot in the drawer is "b" or "d" shaped depending on the side you view it from. It measures 1/16" wide x 1-3/8" high. The "OLD STYLE" file bar slot is a "rectangle" that measures 1/8" wide x 1/2" high. The bars are NOT interchangeable.

The rails fit front to back, but need to be approx 5/16 inch wider. Adding the 2 rails to my 2-drawer Hon lateral filing cabinet left about 5/8 inch between the 3rd row of hanging file folders and the rail, so I had to fabricate a rail to add so I could have three rows of file folders.These hangers are not wide enough to put three files across a 42" lateral file cabinet. They are only about 1" wide and need to be at least 1.25" wide.
