She really does explain exactly what's going on with your back after helping you figure out what it is. That's more than most doctors bother to do and that alone helps you feel more in control and better about your situation. Let's face it, medicine isn't going to help what most of us suffer from, but these exercises help me and I've read lots of books by back experts and done lots of other exercises and seen every sort of physician and therapist out there to no benefit (except massage which is an effective adjunct.) I only have to do about 15 minutes a day to keep going with minimal discomfort from facet joint arthropathy, spurs etc. If I skip them I feel it worsening. But if this doesn't work for you, it's a small investment, keep trying other approaches. Someone somewhere has figured out something that will help your individual case.great book for those with back problems! very simple exercises to do that will bring you relief.very well written in easy to understand language that explains why your back is doing what its doing and why the exercises will rebuild and strengthen your core.I have been to physical therapy over and over through the years and all the things they have you do are not needed at all with following this book.In therapy they had me using this machine, that machine, use a ball, use a stretch band, use a towel and pull her and pull there, use another machine etc etc etc. With this book all the exercises you need to do is just with your own body and nothing else. Just laying on the floor and doing as she has described 4 simple exercises that are not difficult at all to do but will repair your core and spine..Excellent book. The details about various back conditions are easy to understand, well-illustrated with figures, and very helpful. I would recommend this to anyone who is having back issues. It is difficult to find this kind of information when you are a lay person, and my MD told me virtually nothing about my condition, so I really appreciated the medical information provided in this book. I have also done many of the recommended exercises and found them to be good ones, and in fact better and more effective than what my (ex) physical therapist had recommended. This is a good book to read, as is "Backsense," which has a very different perspective on this issue. I'd recommend both for a good overview of some possible ways out of back pain. There is not any useful info about scoliosis & she is unclear about some things, like she'll give a fact then say, "Easy to see why..." Well, it's not really easy to comprehend. I have read it once all the way thru & several times since loosely--i have no anatomy background. The exercises are effective. This book marked a turning point in my back pain to the better. I do wish it had scoliosis info though.I used the exercises and teachings from this book for about 4 months for a bulged disc. Originally I thought it was a very helpful book because it didn't cause mid back pain like another book called something like how to treat back pain in seven minutes a day. However, I woke up stiff and I continued to have pain when I stood. Eventually I attempted to schedule a Skype consultation with the author via a service she offers from her website, but that turned out to be a rather bizarre encounter with an odd system of scheduling that didn't work for me. (Not to mention Sarah seemed a little rude when I finally just asked for a refund.)It's been 3-4 weeks since I've stopped following the methods in this book and I switched to a book called Back Mechanic by Stuart McGill. I've had incredibly good results with it and I would highly recommended it. I realize now that the exercises from this book were part of the problem. I'm not saying that this author for sure doesn't have her place for other back problems, but when it comes to a bulged disc I'm 100% certain that the methods in the book Back Mechanic worked better for me.Excellent information presented in an easy to understand manner.Helped me understand my problems and decide on a course of treatment.Sarahs years of experience can be very helpful to everyone. The author has revealed true means for relieving back pain and restoring health to a damaged back. I have a sequestered disk in L4-L5 and know what pain is. The exercises have been very effective in restoring mobility to my back and allowing me greater freedom of movement. I wish I had read this book several years ago. It would have helped me avoid the mistakes which led to my latest trauma. I am grateful to the author for helping me get back, pun intended, my life.Back Sufferers' Bible by Sarah Key is essential reading for anyone with a back problem. And if it is a chronic problem then, as the title would indicate, it should kept readily at hand as a source of advice, comfort and ideas on how to improve one's life. Key describes in easily understood language the human back and what can go wrong with it. Moreover, she gives practical solutions so that the sufferer knows when it is appropriate to rest, exercise and take medication. As someone who has a troublesome back from time to time, I've found the "Back Bible" extremely useful and the exercises helpful.Fascinating! If only I had known the importance of and how to rehydrate my spinal discs daily! I bought this as part of a spine realignment course, but ended up recommending it to my whole family! The book is very well written, clear, simple to understand, but in depth. Invaluable advice of how to take care of your spine and how to correctly use your muscles to avoid or recover from injury. I give these exercises to clients, and they are seeing great results!I haven’t read this yet. But just getting the book has shifted my thinking. The book is a visual reminder that there is stuff to do and try. I’ve studied a little of pain management online and have seen the scientific data on opioid amounts and how going above a certain limit creates more pain. I reduced by 20mg a day and I had the withdrawals as everyone does but....the pain has got more manageable. So, I can’t talk for the book yet but it’s got me thinking and that’s all you need to do. Try stuff and buy the book! Wishing you well.Only been using this for 3 days but can already tell a difference in what has been debilitating pain for a slipped disc. Have managed to cut down on my painkillers by a third. The exercises such as back rolling I'd never heard of before and they are certainly different starting ones from those my physio recommended I do. The book is very detailed in its explanations as to how a healthy back functions and what happens when it goes wrong. For the first time in s long history of pain I finally get it; knowing why you are doing certain exercises is a real motivator. Brilliant. In the last few months I've read or been given lots of books on backs, none of which helped me at all. I was in agony all the time and about ready to agree to the surgery I was told was my only hope. The explanations and exercises in this book changed my life in days. To have a life with so much less pain for so little effort is almost unbelievable. It's important to know what type of problem you have before attempting these exercises to make sure you're doing the right thing for what's going on with your back. I'd definitely recommend talking them over with your physiotherapist or whoever - there were a couple my physio suggested I modify to suit my particular case, but I'd give this book 10 stars if I could. It's well explained, makes real sense and is the best book on backs I've ever come across. It takes all the things that can go wrong and gives you hope that just about all of them can be helped and how to do so.If you have a problem back from mild to desperate this book is a keeper.I injured my back at work; and although it was trivial, it kept niggling me. I wanted to understand the nuts and bolts of a back and ways I could prevent my minor injury from becoming chronic. Visiting a chiropractor - which I did - was fine but it did not teach me anything about my back. Using Sarah Key's book, I was able to diagnose my ailment and undertake a course of self-treatment which would prevent it from becoming worse. What I like about Sarah Key is that she places her personal experience before established practice or theory. She is very much hands on. Your health is the most precious thing you have and a bad back is one of the greatest obstacles to that; therefore, do yourself a favour and buy it.
