Low Self Discharge Because of the use of Lead Calcium grids alloy, Powerstar SLA battery can be stored long periods of time without recharge. The PowerStar SLA battery has stable and reliable performance. The battery can withstand overcharge, over discharge, vibration, and shock, and is capable of extended storage. Low Pressure Venting System Powerstar batteries are equipped with a safe, low-pressure venting system which operates at 1psi to 6psi, designed to release excess gas and reseal automatically in the event that gas pressure rises to a level above the normal rate. Thus, there is no excessive build up of gas in the batteries. Gas Recombination Powerstar batteries incorporated unique design that effectively controls generation of gas and allows recombination of over 90% of gas generated during the normal use. This low pressure venting system, coupled with the extraordinarily high recombination efficiency, make our batteries the safest sealed lead-acid batteries available. Maintenance Free During the expected floating service life of Powerstar batteries, there is no need to check the specific gravity of the electrolyte or add water, which means they require no maintenance service. I gave this a 5 because they did what they promised. The batteries arrived quickly. They were well protected in bubble wrap. Replacement terminals for the connection wires were included. The batteries replaced the originals with no noticeable change in dimension and fit in the UPS -- more on that later. I have to accept the capacity listing because I can't test it. When I put the new batteries in, the UPS stopped complaining, so they are doing the job. It's comforting to have a 3-year full replacement guarantee, but of course I'm hoping I won't have to use it.Replacing the batteries is challenging. The original APC battery assembly has adhesive labels that tie the batteries to a plastic piece holding the wires and a connector for the UPS. You will have to take it apart to remove and replace the dead batteries. It will be much easier to plug into the UPS if you make a new battery assembly using strong thin tape such as parcel wrap. To remove the old batteries you will need to separate them from the plastic piece between them. Cutting the red and green labels at the joints is the fastest was to do so but if you go too deep you can damage the wires going to the batteries, so just make a surface cut. Once the batteries are loose you can move them out enough to access the terminals. The red wires should be connected to the red terminals and the black wires should be on the other terminal. Remove the wires by pushing them off the battery terminals -- don't pull on the wires because this could damage the connection. CAUTION: The batteries may still contain energy -- be careful not to short across the terminals! When you have disconnected both of the old batteries you can install the replacements by connecting the wires to the terminals, matching colors as before. You now have a functional battery pack but it's floppy. Carefully align the batteries and the plastic holder and tape them together, running the tape between the ribs on the holder. Repeat on the other side. At this point you have a real assembly that you can plug in. It is keyed so that you can't insert it incorrectly and damage anything, but APC did design it to allow shipment with batteries disconnected, so look to see that the connector is on the inside.And now you're set for the next 3 years!
