Product Description

Nearly a decade after the debut of her bestselling, life-changing classic A Year by the Sea, Joan is so busy helping other women search for their true selves and taking care of several generations of her family that she doesn't even realize how out of control her life has become. Ironically, she finds she needs to listen to her own advice more than anyone else does. The Second Journey chronicles Joan's quest to restore her own equilibrium and find herself again. Suffused with her characteristic humor and warmth, this is a book for any woman who wants to know how to awaken her own independent spirit and set herself on a new path. Sharing her musings on love, marriage, family, growing older, aging parents, and spirituality, Joan offers reassurances that the best is yet to come and empowers other women to come of age in the middle of life.

I've enjoyed reading other books by Joan Anderson and this one was just as interesting, encouraging and enjoyable. She has a way of sharing her story that inspires the reader to reflect on ways we can find our purpose and make time for ourselves even if we aren't yet able to participate in her Weekend by the Sea. I really appreciate that she didn't give up on her marriage but just took some time for herself. So many times people throw away many years with a spouse when they could have just taken a sabatical like she did. Of course, her husband had staying power, too, and was willing to work thru their issues. I recommend this book and her first book "A Year by the Sea", especially to anyone who feels stagnant in their marriage. Her writing also stirs my desire to visit Cape Cod again. I bought an autographed copy of her first book when I was on my first visit there and I long to go again.
